Many years ago, when driving across the country, I saw a message on a church sign in Mobile, Alabama that has become one of my favorites. It said:
Do the best you can with what you have where you’re at.
Life is hard. Marriage is hard. Sometimes, there seems to be an endless number of problems that we face. And, as soon as we get over one bump in the road, another one comes along.
And it’s not just problems that can bring us down. Trying to achieve big goals or working towards a better future can cause heartbreak as we seem to have more struggle and face more frustration than achievement.
When pursuing our goals and dreams sometimes it may seem that there are so many pieces of the puzzle that it seems impossible to ever finish or have any success. We don’t know which way is up or what direction to go.
So what do you do?
Do you give up? Do you get a divorce? Do you run away?
No. You figure out how you can do the best you can with what you have where you’re at. And then you go and start doing it. The best way you can. You don’t have to be perfect as long as you’re moving in the right direction.
Next time life gives you an unexpected and unwanted shove, try it. It works if you work it.
